Core Workflows

The day-to-day moves: getting a position into DeltaCortex, finding your next trade, rolling, and closing. For dashboard cards and tab orientation, see Getting Started; for strategy reasoning behind these actions, see the in-app Decision Guide.

Add a position manually

Click + Add in the main toolbar. You can paste an option symbol (OCC format, e.g. TGT260417P00115000) into the top field to auto-fill ticker, strike, expiration, and type — or just fill in the fields below it directly:

  • Ticker, Strike, Expiration, Contracts, Option Type (Put/Call), Position (Short/Long)
  • Entry Price and Current Price — per share
  • Delta and Implied Volatility — feed the Health Score and Smart Action logic
Paper trades: check "Paper trade (not real money)" to track a position without it counting toward buying power, concentration limits, or any real-money performance stats.

Import trades from a CSV export

From the Performance tab, 📥 Import Trades from CSV bulk-loads closed trade history from a CSV file.

Format note: the importer currently expects Fidelity's exact CSV export format. If you trade through a different broker, use manual entry (above) for now — broader format support isn't built yet.

Find new trades

🔍 Find Puts (main toolbar) opens the Cash-Secured Put Scanner:

  • Enter a ticker and a target delta (conservative ~0.20, balanced ~0.30, aggressive ~0.40)
  • Candidates are ranked by a Balanced Score — annualized yield, ATR downside buffer, and OTM distance, penalized for high assignment delta and expirations crossing earnings
  • A 🟢/🟡/🔴 Hurdle icon shows whether the annualized yield clears your FDRXX × hurdle-multiple bar (set in Settings)
  • If Assigned = strike − premium, your effective cost basis if the put gets assigned

Once you hold assigned shares, the same idea applies to Scan CCs from that shares row — the Covered Call Scanner labels each strike by strategic zone:

🟢 Recovery
Strike ≥ your cost basis. Small premium, but called away means exiting at or above breakeven.
🟡 Income
Stock < strike < basis. Meaningful premium; if assigned you cap a share loss at that strike.
🔴 Aggressive / ITM
Strike ≤ stock price. High premium, high assignment odds — effectively an exit decision.

Roll a position

From a position's action menu, Roll closes the current option and opens a new one in a single step, preserving roll-chain history for accurate P&L. You'll enter the new strike, new expiration, the exit price on the position you're closing, and the entry price/delta/IV on the new one.

Not sure what to roll to? The Roll Credit Scanner (also from the action menu) scans the chain for net-credit roll candidates automatically, so you don't have to price combinations by hand.

If a position has moved against you, the Wheel Recovery Calculator projects how long covered-call premium alone would take to grind your cost basis back down to today's stock price — a patience timeline, not a stock forecast.

Close a position or handle assignment

  • Close — enter the exit price; the position moves to your closed-trade history and P&L is recorded.
  • Assign CSP → Shares — when a put is assigned, this converts it into a shares position, carrying the full roll chain's premiums into an accurate cost basis, ready for you to write covered calls against.
  • Close shares (called away or sold) — same idea in reverse: closes an assigned-shares position, whether from a call getting exercised or a manual sale.
Wheel-cycle basis tracking: when you close a covered call written against shares you're still holding, DeltaCortex offers to fold that call's realized P&L into the shares' cost basis — so your break-even keeps tracking the whole cycle, not just the original assignment price.
